SIAM 2019: Swiss agricultural innovation servicing Moroccan agriculture

Moroccan agriculture is at a strategic moment. A national engine for employment and exports, the sector is called upon to become more open to innovation in order to create a genuine agricultural middle class. Switzerland, a long-standing partner of the Kingdom, is one of the ten largest foreign investors and will be present at the SIAM with several leading companies in the sector in order to promote, from Meknes, the innovations that concretely contribute to the advent of profitable and creative agriculture. jobs. The Swiss pavilion is proud to contribute to the anchoring of Morocco’s “green leadership” at the regional and continental level, driven by the far-sighted policy of its King, His Majesty Mohammed VI.

Links with Morocco through the mountains

With the Mountain Partnership launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Switzerland and Morocco have joined an alliance of countries and private sector actors aimed at improving the conditions of life of mountain populations and to protect mountain environments around the world, in connection with the implementation of the UN Agenda 2030.

Cooperation between Switzerland and Morocco in the agricultural sector will be strengthened during the SIAM, as the Swiss Ambassador in Rabat, Massimo Baggi, reminds us: “By facilitating access to the international market for agrifood products and terroir, in particular argan oil, rosemary and prickly pear, by developing value chains with a view to growth, and by supporting professional associations active in agriculture, Switzerland supports the promotion of agricultural products and the exchange of experience throughout the Moroccan territory ”.

Investments on the rise for 5 years

With more than 5 billion dirhams of investments since 2014, Swiss companies alone generate 9,000 direct jobs in the Kingdom. 50 Swiss companies have worked every day to promote the Moroccan economy since 1948.

The Swiss Pavilion, an itinerant embassy for 2.0 and sustainable agriculture

The space dedicated to Swiss companies will offer visitors to the SIAM a digest of innovation and expertise. “We have thought of our pavilion as an embassy of all that Swiss companies offer Moroccan agriculture,” recalls Sami Zerelli, President of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Morocco. Before adding: “Swiss companies do not just create innovative products and services, they think and imagine the world that goes with them. It ranges from biostimulants and precision farming to smart milk collection. ” Swiss agricultural excellence has therefore always been at the service of Morocco and its economy.

La présThe presence of Swiss companies in Morocco is not new. Indeed, some of them established themselves there 70 years ago. “Beyond their almost historical roots, they dare and surprise by moving away from the codes of the sector, by transforming themselves into aggregators of expertise for the farming community, and the national economy,” insists Sami Zerelli.

On the SIAM program:

Throughout the show, visitors will be able to get as close as possible to Swiss authenticity: between tasting typically Swiss chocolates and cheeses, the public will also be able to meet a robot equipped with artificial intelligence or even taste sustainably grown Moroccan fruits and vegetables.

Éléphant Vert Maroc will take an active part in the Swiss pavilion with a 100m2 stand and participation in the round table on Friday, April 19 at the SIAM conference center, under the theme “Sustainable agriculture, a lever for growth”.
